Melissa Cuturich

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Melissa came to Australia at the age of four. Early in life, she married and had experienced abuse from the father of her three children. Eventually, she chose to leave that volatile situation.

Her son, only eleven at the time, faced something no child should ever have to face and was forced to make a very grown-up decision and call the police. Melissa began that journey without support and was riddled with fear of the unknown. Nevertheless, she proved to be a real survivor. She raised her children on her own and has guided them through their adult lives, providing them with education, security, and stability. From her humble beginnings in cleaning homes, she has become a business development manager for a multimillion-dollar cleaning facility. She is now a construction industry consultant, participating in problem solving and mediation in the financial world and all its diversities. Her knowledge is vast, and she has assisted clients with the emotional and financial turmoil caused by the GFC. Her passion is educating others on their rights, helping them protect their homes and read between the lines of the many broad and confusing policies, procedures, and rules that impact their lives. As a result, she is a life coach to many, without even meaning to be! She shares her own life experiences to highlight the things we think we know but really don’t, so that their lives will be empowered, improved, and enriched as hers was.

Melissa is a member of Motivational Speakers Australia, Australian Writers Centre, ACAA (Australian Coal Ash Association), and the Master Builders Association. Her greatest ambition, however, and one she has proudly accomplished, was to raise her children without living in fear and also to look after her grandmother in Croatia where she goes every year, so she can give back to the amazing woman who raised her. She has sponsored medical services, visited, and supplied food and other necessities to a forgotten village in Vietnam and has travelled to orphanages and hospitals in Saigon. Melissa is very active in many charities and has been recognised for her selfless, generous support of and association with Cure for Brain Cancer, Make A Wish, White Ribbon, Special Olympics, and others.

Melissa is best known for the continual support she offers to individuals in need. She provides real solutions and shows much empathy for those in dire, difficult situations. Her experience, knowledge, and networking instil the trust so many have furnished to her, and she loves taking the anxiety and fear out of a hostile environment. She has a notable ability to provide alternative perceptions that her clients can truly embrace, allowing them to take back control of the situation, even amidst extreme hardship. From solicitors to mums and dads facing misfortune and many overwhelming demands in life, business, and finance, she has helped people re-create their life stories, from tales of hardship to tales of hope. She is a compassionate and sometimes childlike woman who is determined to educate in order to eradicate abuse of any sort so that the next generation doesn’t suffer from the same mistakes.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

My life was one of a volatile beginning. This journey, shared with my readers, is for so many who suffer in silence because of the immobilising shame, doubt, and the incapacity caused by another human being. In my story, a young girl is placed in the hands of a keeper—not a husband—at a very young age. Not yet a woman, she has three children, an extra brain, no education, and no support! My eleven-year-old changed my life course when he phoned the police to protect his mum, and that was where my real life began.

I was tasked with raising three children basically on my own, educating myself, and discovering the art of survival. My consciously empowering overview (CEO) tested me and my faith in him and in myself.

The fear that had served for so long as the bars that kept me trapped had to be penetrated. I was responsible for three lives, as well as my own, even though I was a child myself, still growing up and trying to find my identity.

Through it all, I managed to buy a home, educate my children, and start my own business. I also learnt and studied all I needed to know to protect myself. I was a single mother who had to do it all.

There was great trauma in the emotional roller coaster that was my life, and trying to learn how to cope when there were no real solutions was a daunting challenge. How could I build a secure life for the four of us? The GFC came and went, and like so many, I fell victim to the banks. The only difference was that I won. No one has the right to bully you—not even a bank! My motivation was simple: I wanted to know what I had to know, not just what those organisations wanted me to know.

I had many mentors in life, people who taught me more survival skills and how to trust my own instincts. However, my story illustrates how my emotional DNA allowed me to be manipulated and blinded by a professional. Luckily, my tenacity gave me the ability to overcome even those attempts to control and sabotage me. I had to also learn how to deal with my own internal critic and saboteur; up to that point, I’d never understood what was going on with me internally. The mechanical robot just kept going, without any lubrication, and it became harder and harder to cope.

For every woman, emotional, physical, and financial awareness are crucial, no matter her history or her environment, and this is clearly indicated in this story. We have a tendency to sign documents and give up our inherent rights because of our emotional DNA (E-DNA), which can leave us in a vulnerable position and be a detriment to our families. My story is one of many, but I learnt to read between the lines and get to the truth of protecting my assets (ME) by learning and doing what others failed to teach me!
