BriAnna Simons

BriAnna Simons is a Clinical Social Worker with a passion for helping children and families improve their emotional health and strengthen relationships. This passion led her to gain specialized training through the Canadian Association for Child and Play Therapy and incorporating Child and Play Based Therapies as her primary area of practice. BriAnna provides therapeutic interventions to children and youth between the ages of 2.5 to 16 years of age, however, her scope spans across all ages within the family. She has worked with children and families with a variety of challenges spanning from childhood anxiety to anger, grief and loss due to divorce, known and unknown traumas, low self-esteem to challenges in peer relationships and relational dynamics and attachment within the family.

While completing her Master of Social Work Degree at Memorial University in Newfoundland, BriAnna wrote a thesis titled: “Is Ignorance Really Bliss? Child Welfare Workers Speak Out About Their Understanding of Best Practice when Working with Children Exposed to Domestic Violence”. This came out of her work as a child welfare worker which opened BriAnna’s eyes to the state of the Canadian Child Welfare System and the need for children to have an opportunity to process challenges experienced in their lives and the importance of emotionally attuned parenting.

Through BriAnna’s own personal experiences in childhood, education, work experiences, specialized training, and becoming a parent, BriAnna knew that she could help more parents connect with their children on a level that gets easily lost, yet is naturally part of being human. This is how the idea for her book, “Emotionally Attuned Parenting: An Easy + Fun Guide to Helping Your Child Through the Tough Stuff of Life” came to be.

BriAnna owns a private practice in Chester, Nova Scotia providing therapeutic services and support within the community. She is part of the inclusion team with Simply Good Form Consultancy, a board member with Lunenburg PRIDE, as well as a board member for the Chester Community Health Coalition. BriAnna has been with her partner since she was a teenager and has been married for nearly a decade; they are raising two amazing children and have established their roots in rural Nova Scotia on the picturesque South Shore.

As a clinical therapist, BriAnna’s goals are to provide services to children and families who are experiencing challenges that are holding them back in some way. Children look to the adults in their lives to help them navigate the world around them. BriAnna aims to help educate caregivers to support children through their own individual process of self-discovery and growth. Ideally, services should not be a lifelong necessity to live a healthy and happy life. BriAnna helps children and families gain skills, discover their own internal resources and identify and connect with their community to help them navigate the bumps in the road.

This book is another means to share knowledge and resources to help guide parents and caregivers in helping children through the tough stuff of life; some of it inevitable, some of it preventable. Regardless of how tough stuff happens, children need support and guidance to help them navigate these challenges without experiencing debilitating emotional wounds. This book is going to guide you in how to use the skill of emotional connection to bring depth into your everyday parenting so that you can help your child through the tough stuff of life.

Parents can finally feel as though they can help their children process life’s challenges instead of sitting witness to their child’s hurt, sadness, and overwhelm. Children need connection and a sense of safety and security when navigating this big world that surrounds them. Don’t let your child get stuck and struggle throughout life feeling alone. You will learn the power that emotionally attuned parenting, playfulness and fun can have in helping children through the tough stuff of life. These are powerful interactions that build a connection that will help your child with big emotions, through separation and divorce, grief and loss, traumas, bullying, building self-confidence, and practicing gratitude.

In this book you will discover the elements behind emotionally attuned parenting which when implemented will create a strong connection with your child. Through this you will learn new strategies for helping your child through life’s “tough stuff”.
