Barbara Dreyer

Ms. Barbara A. Dreyer, founder of BarbiesGoodies, watched her life as a spectator, a fly on the wall, for she is a survivor of childhood abuse and trauma. She felt alone and suicidal when no one believed she was being abused, including her own mother, because her abuser was so manipulative. At only 19, she finally broke free and really began to live. On her own, she became a successful student, educator, and mentor. Through great perseverance, she removed herself from an abusive home, took herself off forced medication, earned her GED, got her own place, and did not pause until she had her master’s degree and her very own home, complete with a beautiful garden! She has taught thousands of students for over nineteen years, from preschool to college, in almost every subject. Many call her “Mom,” because she aims to be there for her students throughout their lives. She is in excellent physical shape and coaches others to look after their fitness as well. She is now best friends with her own mother, and she has so much to teach about the power of forgiveness. She is always happy to speak about her personal journey and growth, with empowering emphasis on how she now lives without regrets, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and even nightmares. Barbara is an energetic philanthropist with a big heart. As an environmentally conscious and spiritually focused Reiki master and healer, mentor, motivational speaker and teacher, she has many interests and is able to help others in many ways!

Her book is based on the life lessons she has learned, especially during her difficult and traumatic childhood. Soon after her brother was born on her fourth birthday, her parents divorced. She was then passed around on the weekends from her dad to her grandparents and eventually back to mom. At the start of her sixth-grade school year, she was excited to be picked up in the middle of the day, until her stepfather turned to her and her little brother in the pick-up truck and said, “Your dad’s dead. We are going to go see.”

Barbara is a survivor of multiple tragedies and a victor over abuse. She shares her challenges with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and childhood abuse so others can know that they are not alone. When she speaks and shares her story, she is often assured by listeners that she has encouraged them to never quit. Some even claim she has prevented them from committing suicide. She is a strong individual who believes her purpose is to help others.

Barbara, a lifelong learner, has much to teach others. One of her personal mottos is “To live long, I have to live more!” and she looks forward to celebrating her birthday on 1/21, living to be 121, sharing her wisdom, and celebrating New Year’s 2100! She understands that it is not where you start but where you finish that is important. She started by gaining her freedom from her abuser, then jumped headfirst into her education. Even with no one to guide and help her, she dedicated herself to being there for others, and she does her best to be the change she wishes to see in the world. She is always there for her students and wants the best for them.

She has taught thousands of students in Nevada throughout her almost two decades as a tutor, advisor, and mentor. As a classroom teacher, she bettered the lives of many low-income, first-generation students, those with behavior problems, and high school seniors who had experienced difficulty passing their proficiency. In addition to preschool, grade school, high school, and college, she has also facilitated home-school studies and worked one on one with many who required that kind of personal attention. In addition to earning her master’s degree at UNLV, she also worked there as an editor of the student newsletter, and she was interviewed by the local newspaper about her tutoring work. She is known for helping her students first believe in themselves, realize the problem, then show their work in the most fun, interesting, no-pressure, positive atmospheres where there are no wrong answers, only lessons learned.

Barbara lives a healthy, eclectic lifestyle, with the constant enthusiasm of the Energizer Bunny. As a health and wellness coach and trainer, helping others to get in better shape both mentally and physically. As a Reiki master, she provides energy healing treatments with aromatherapy and sound therapy. She loves to travel and enjoys animals and nature.
