ABOUT THE AUTHOR
John J. Moakler, Jr., BMath, CFP, CLU graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1986 with a Bachelor of Mathematics and Computer Science. He spent 18 years in the high-tech industry – capped by building a software start-up and selling it to IBM for $75million.
In the course of that transaction, he became dissatisfied with the financial advice he was receiving. So he set out to become a financial planner himself in 2003 and obtained the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designations. Before establishing his own practice, John worked as a financial planner at one of the largest mutual fund companies in Canada, winning many company awards – including the Gold Medal in 2009 and Financial Planner of the Year no fewer than five times.
As a financial planner, John’s client list exclusively comprises physicians. He has come up with a customized, written Financial Treatment Plan which he calls Financial Health Care for Doctors™.
Likewise, John is no stranger to elite competition in his private life. For more than 35 years, he has volunteered his time as a volleyball referee at the provincial, national, and international levels.
John lives in Brampton, Ontario, and has three grown children. He has been interviewed on financial planning matters by publications including The Globe and Mail and Zoomer magazine.
“My clients, all of them physicians, know that I invested in myself with intense education and training, just like they did in their chosen field.”
